SAN FRAN

July 12th, 2010

Recently, few of the LCAD students and I went up North to visit San Francisco. The trip was very inspiring. I’ve taken so many photos that can be useful as reference. We were only there for 3 days, but we jam packed our schedule with everything we can do. Nicole Tan had a place to stay, so we pretty much stayed there for three days. We went to dow town San fran, aquariums, lotsa restaurants, and my favorite…JELLY BEANS FACTORY!!

The trip was very relaxing. different from typical life :)

Keeping myself motivated to draw

July 3rd, 2010

Lately, summer is making me lazy in terms of art. I do art for freelance, but it’s not as exciting as doing stuff for school. School projects are fun because I can use my imagination more freely than job arts. although school is tough and stressful, i feel motivated and productive.
so, i decided to go back to sketch jam which is held at the District, in Tustin. This is an event that is held every wednesday night from 7~11pm. Many people from working industry (dreamworks, blizzard, crazy pixels, obsidian, etc.) shows up to sketch whatever. Anyone can come even if you cant draw. I STRONGLY recommend you to come if you are bored right now doing nothing. it’s a nice place to hang out, get to know people, and learn about art. I’ve gotten lots of help and tips on becoming better at what i’m doing.
if you google search Tustin District, you will be able to find the direction. we sketch right outside borders book store every wednesday from 7~11pm.

bring jacket because it may be cold :)

Power Ranger game

June 16th, 2010

So again, couple LCAD students and UCI students are collaborating to make an actual playable video game right now. We made it to the point where you can download it and play it. You have to be on windows to play it tho. download it and try it out! email me what you think about it : bryantkoshu@lagunacollege.edu there’s still LOTS of work we have to do to it, but i’m pretty proud of the game for being able to come this far with such a limited resources and people. One big problem that we are encountering is with animation and how to incorporate them into the game. since game art doesn’t really deal with the animation part, we lack the knowledge of animation. We currently don’t have any animation student from the school interested in joining the team so, brett and i have to look up youtube and find out ourselves how the animation part works. Hopefully by end of summer, we be able to make this game pretty bad ass!

Here’s the link to download the game:

and for those who cant download and play the game, here’s a video footage of our game:

UDK VIDEO GAME

Power Rangers Project

June 5th, 2010

So, incase you don’t know, right now I’m working with couple LCAD students and 5 UCI programmers to make an actual video game. I’d like to feature one of the artist, Brett Lo.

His main interest is 3D, but he is badass with concepts as well. Here’s one of the villains we’re gonna include in the game.

some video games over the summer

May 16th, 2010

So now that I have a bit more time during the summer, I’d like spend some time playing er……I mean studying video games. One game I’m gonna plan playing is final fantasy 13. there’s a lot of bad things i heard about this game, but being a final fantasy fan and how the visuals look absolutely amazing, I must play this video game. Final fantasy is part of the reason why I’m in game art. so hopefully by playing through this game, I will be more inspired and be able to come up with more new ideas. :D

Plans over the Summer

May 9th, 2010

So here’s what I’ve planned for my summer:

1. Working with Craig Rosenberg. He’s a writer for several hit films. Some of his recent films are “the uninvited,” “Half Light,” “After the sunset.” He’s also writer for “lost.” Currently he’s working on a new film and me, Brett lo, and Dylan scher is working on the visual development. This will probably go on for a while during the summer.

2. Internship with Robert Mckinnon. Rob is a concept artist for bunch of films. Check out his blog. he’s freakin amazing!!!! (robertmckinnon.blogspot.com) he’s also working with a writer on a new film and i’m interning under him to do some concepts SWEET :D

3. Power Rangers Project. several blog posts ago, I posted up the video game project im working on with several UCI programmers. this video game will probably take this whole summer.OhH. and i’ve attached an image of how the game looks so far :) It’s gonna look BADASS once we finish it!!!!!!!!!!

4. get more freelance jobs. I’m starting to lose money ToT. I must find some freelance job through cghubs, or conceptart.org and get some cash in my pocket!!!if you artists are looking for jobs, these sites are good to do so

5. Get back into shape!!! all the art during the semester killed my physical status. I must hit the gym more often, ad also get back into surfing!

SOOOooooooOOo…. that would be my plan over the summer!

UCI LCAD MASHUP

May 4th, 2010

During early april, group of UCI programmers came to LCAD to team up and create an actual video game. At first, I thought I would be too busy to deal with this, but one of the programmer, Even came up to me after I pitched my Power ranger story and was interested in joining me to create my story into a game. I wasn’t really serious at first, but as time went by, the video game we’re creating starts to take form and is becoming reaally legit! so far, the team has two artist (me and brett) and 5 uci programmers, but when summer starts, we’re going to have more people wanting to join our group. Once our senior presentation comes, we will have an awesome video game to show!

If you guys are interested in what we are working on, we have a blog where we post stuff we’re working on. CHECK IT OUT!!!

CDA

May 3rd, 2010

First of all, I forgot to mention, but Erik Tiemens’ water color and guache workshop was kickass!!! I’ve learned a LOT within 2 days. the first day was all lecture and notes. 2nd day, we went to a nature park and did some plein air paintings. there were several guys from blizzard that i met (peter, paul, and rob). everyone did an amazing job!
I’ve had a hard time using guache because I’ve never used it before, but I can see how this can really be helpful if I’m not working digital. I’m planning on taking Sandy’s water color class next semester at LCAD so hopefully I can utilize the skills I’ve got from Erik Tiemens.

For the summer, one thing I will be doing is taking more class and workshop at Concept Design Academy. I’m trying to get into James Paick’s environment design class, but that class gets filled up quickly. Heopfully, CDA will plan another class with James Paick.

If you guys have nothing to do over the summer, I highly recommend taking class at CDA. you will meet different groups of people that will totally make your art feels like crap because they are intensely good. If concept is not a thing for you, there’s also 3 kicks studio right next to CDA you can take during the summer

LETS GET BETTER AT ARRRRT!!!!!!!!
